Jake the Great

The scene opens up at a local school where a young skinny boy with brown hair and glasses named Jimmy is, the boy setting up what looks like a giant refrigerator. Standing next to him is a girl with long black hair and freckles named Julia.

Julia: Um... Jimmy, are you sure about this?

Jimmy: [Turning a screw with a wrench] Just watch. This Winter has been way too hot. Once I get this baby going, we'll have our first snow fall in 5 years. Then no one will have to suffer this insipid heatwave any longer.

Julia: [Sighs] It's... um... impressive that you built this, but are you really, absolutely certain this will work?

Jimmy: [Grins and turns to Julia, smiling] Oh trust me, it'll work, and when it does... [Starts singing] Watch as the people cheer a hero's melody!

They'll all come over here and bow down to me!

[Poses heroically] I know that I have not been the most successful around

[Marches toward Julia, who's eyes shift back and forth] But I know deep down inside that I can one day help this town.

Julia: [Singing] You mean like the time you managed to stop a flood?

You failed at doing that, now all sand has turned to mud

Let's not forget that time you tried to make all old folks young?

If they'd known you were behind their pain, they'd surely have you hung

Jimmy: [Folds arms and sings] Those were minor setbacks, they hardly even count

Besides, I was still learning, I have benefit of doubt

[Grins with pride and pats his machine] No matter what you do and no matter what you say

I'm going to do something to help this town today!

Jimmy breathes heavily with a big grin on his face while Julia smiles and rolls her eyes

Julia: [Sighs and giggles] Well, if you're sure it'll work, then go ahead. Besides, I'd personally love to see some snow in this town too.

Jimmy: [Squeals] I knew you'd see things my way!

Jimmy starts turning a few dials as the machine starts up, him and Julia backing away from it, Jimmy's grin widening every second. Just as the machine starts to make a humming noise, it quickly stops, Jimmy's jaw dropping as his eye twitches.

Jimmy: But... but why? Did I make a mistake?

Julia: [Looks at Jimmy with concern and places a hand on his shoulder] Maybe it wasn't meant to work. Just be glad it didn't... [Notices the machine starting to shoot smoke from its openings] explode... we'd probably better run...

The two flee for their lives as the machine opens up, releasing a large torrent of flames, hitting the school as it starts to burn, kids and teachers fleeing for their lives from the building, news reporters, fire fighters and police officers pulling up in seconds.

Reporter: [Standing in front of the burning building holding a microphone] Hello, I am Amanda Davidson, and I am standing right in front of Garrett High School, which has been burned by a strange machine that resembles a fridge for some reason. Probably some vandal's idea of a joke.

Principal: [Rushes in front of the camera] WELL, I DON'T THINK THIS IS SO FUNNY!!!!! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH IT'S GOING TO COST TO REPAIR THIS SCHOOL!!!!?? I AM GOING TO MURDER THE CULPRIT WHEN I CATCH HIM!!!!!!

Meanwhile, Julia and Jimmy are slowly making their way away from the building, hands in their pockets as they whistle.

Reporter: Uh... him?

Principal: [Sighs] Alright, alright, or her! You know what I meant!

Camera points to an angry police officer.

Officer: I must say, this is far worse than that time a mysterious stranger turned what could have been a minor flood into a big flood last month, but we're sure those two are not the same person...

Jimmy and Julia run from the area, breathing heavily.

Julia: You're lucky they still haven't caught you yet

Jimmy looks down and sniffs, tears in his eyes as Julia looks at him, placing a hand on his shoulder.

Julia: It's okay, Jimmy. Everyone has an off-day.

Jimmy: [Pushes her hand away] Oh yeah!? Well, does everyone have fifty off-days a year!?

Julia opens her mouth to respond, but finds herself at a loss of words as she looks down, rubbing her arm and grinning nervously.

Jimmy: [Look of sadness is replaced by anger] You see!? I am the biggest failure in this town!

Julia: Jimmy...

Jimmy turns around and runs off, Julia holding out her hand before realizing the hopelessness of the situation, looking down and sighing.

Jimmy: [Singing while running down the street, tears in his eyes] I just wanted to help the people in their time of need
